BioFocus DPI, a Galapagos Company, announces the launch of the U.S. National Institutes of Health Clinical Compound Collection (NCC). The collection currently contains 446 bioactive compounds, most of which are known drugs. The NCC is managed and distributed through BioFocus DPI’s Compound Management facility, home to the NIH’s Molecular Libraries Small Molecule Repository.

The compounds in the NCC are known drugs or highly drug-like. Their confirmed purity and physiochemical properties make them particularly favorable for use in compound screening. The compounds are available to research organizations including universities, for profit companies and qualified individuals as a pre-formatted set through BioFocus DPI.

About the NIH’s Clinical Compound Collection

The NIH Clinical Collection (NCC) is a plated array of small molecules, thematically centered on those with a history of use in human clinical trials. The collection was assembled by the NIH through the Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative as part of its mission to expand the use of compound screening in biomedical research. Similar collections of FDA approved drugs have proven to be rich sources of undiscovered bioactivity and therapeutic potential. The clinically focused NCC set contains known drugs and related highly drug-like compounds. These compounds can provide excellent starting points for chemical annotation of targets and biological pathways. Similar collections have enabled the identification of drugs that are effective and even directly applicable to important new diseases. The NIH Molecular Libraries Small Molecule Repository (MLSMR) collects samples for high throughput biological screening and distributes them to the NIH Molecular Libraries Screening Center Network.
