Natural product
We offer an extensive collection of natural products from fungi and actinomycetes. Natural products have long been a major source of new medicines, agrochemicals and animal health products. Natural product based compounds offer potency over a broad range of biological targets, providing high diversity and very desirable physicochemical properties.
Our platform provides:
- Over 125,000 natural product sub-fractions containing on average 10-20 compounds derived from microbial fermentations of a subset of our exclusive collection of 45,000 actinomycetes and 8,000 fungi
- High-throughput screening of natural product sub-fractions from microbial fermentations, followed by efficient isolation and rapid structure elucidation of the active compound for cost-effective programs
- Over 500 pure natural compounds, many unavailable elsewhere, acting on specific target classes (including inhibitors for HSP90, kinases and proton-ATPases), interacting with specific pathways (such as apoptosis, angiogenesis and immunosuppression) and cytotoxics and antimicrobials
- Expertise in performing tailored fermentations and compound production
- Preparation of exclusive semi-synthetic libraries based on natural product scaffolds
- A track record of lead optimization and profiling studies with proven results
- Over 35,000 as yet unexploited actinomycetes and fungi

Specific collections and libraries
Natural product collection: Our collection of natural compounds and derivatives cover a broad range of biological activities includes compounds acting on specific target classes, such as inhibitors of HSP90, kinases and proton-ATPases as well as compounds with cytotoxic or antimicrobial activities.
NPL01 - Natural products library: The library contains a structurally and functionally diverse range of natural compounds obtained from microbial sources which are usually not available elsewhere. NPL01 compounds have a wide range of biological activities, making them ideal discovery candidates.
NFB-529 - NatFocus benzoxazole library: This library is based on the ansamycin scaffold. This is a new, formerly unknown building block produced from the geldanamycin core and has enabled us to create a completely new library.
NFI-467 - NatFocus staurosporine library: NFI-467 is directed towards the ATP binding site of serine/threonine and tyrosine kinases and also binds with the ATP binding site of ABC multidrug transporters. The library is based on the indolocarbazole scaffold found in compounds such as staurosporine, which is a potent (sub-nanomolar IC50) kinase inhibitor with a broad spectrum of inhibition. Derivatives in the library show increased selectivity.
NFL-457 - NatFocus lupane library: Based on the Lupane scaffold, a pentacyclic triterpene compound found in natural compounds such as betulinic or planic acid, this library is related to molecules such as steroid hormones and cholesterol. These compounds offer the chance to target a diverse range of biological activities from oncology to virology, and have recently been shown to be agonists of nuclear hormone receptors.
